Has it Really Been a Week ...

... since my last post? Time keeps slipping though my fingers.

Once upon a time, I was girl that THRIVED on deadlines (sometimes meeting them by the skin of my teeth, but ALWAYS meeting them ON TIME) ... and then I moved to Florida. It took me a while, but I finally accept that I have grown acustomed to Florida time. Did you know that here in Florida (at least in the southwest) "soon" can be anytime between the next ten minutes and ten months (some might even argue ten years)? At least I think that's what's going on ...

Case in point #1: I still haven't sent out my Christmas cards or had my holiday "Make-n-Bake" fest. Has anyone noticed the first week of January has nearly passed?

Case in point #2:

What's that, you ask? It's the beginings of The Cigar Box Shrine for the
Auction for Oaxaca Street Children ... remember THIS? I waited way to long to get started ... till late last week ... pan out a little and you'll have this:

Right now I am at about this point:

*sighs*

They're due to Rebecca on January 10th (to be considered for inclusion in Pasticcio Quartz - no guarantee, of course, but it would have been exciting to be considered). It's January 7th. I'm missing that deadline. I'm bummed, but I did this to myself. Thank goodness the shrined can be received until the end of the month to be included in the auction.

Case in point #3: I signed up for a post card exchange way-back-when with a "must be mailed" date of 12/15 ... I made it to the post office on 12/22 ... the saving grace is that I wasn't the only one & the hostess, JennLui at
A Trinket Treasury is a generously kind spirit. So not to be a spoiler to the recipients, the two shots below are just snipets of two of the cards:

and:

In a nutshell, if it isn't Florida time that's gotten its hold on me, then I am seriously clueless as to why I have been such an utter and total flake ... anyone have any ideas how I can cure this terrible malady?!?

I think the answer to 'why?' is in your About Me...you're a breather, a be-er, etc. I think you're thriving in a different way these days...OR, maybe it was that birthday you had last May-hehee-sorry, I couldn't resist:)
By the way, your shrines look like they're going to be real beauties!

ya know what?

Lately I have been taking notice of things like wot-you-said.

In the light of, maybe I signed up for this but in 20/20 hindsight the project/challenge/art deadline isnt really me.

Maybe you are discovering the at that REALLY IS YOU, and allowing the rest to slide...

You aren't alone! I tend to sign up for things on the spur of the moment and then when the deadline looms on the horizon, I panic! I'm trying to set some limits for myself regarding that but we'll see!

I love the shrine and the glimpse of the postcards...they look beautiful!

Aah another Taurean. I'm the 12th May. When are you?

Sounds like a case of African Time to me....or its that December/January lethargy I've been talking about.

The shrine is looking good!

Oh, Michelle.... I haven't STARTED my shrine! I'm a complete slug!!

Tonight I went to my nephews' for dinner and late gift exchange, so still didn't get work done. We had a wonderful time, but still...these deadlines, on which I used to do my best work, have become elusive... Is time going FASTER? I hate to keep asking that, but I have four pages for a collaborative journal, 6 butterflies for the Holocaust museum, the shrine, and two journal pages, still to send out.

My point is: you are a trooper! Don't worry about what time zone you're on, just keep on keeping on. We've embarked on a year of peace and good works. And look at what great work you've done. Really lovely. It helps me, inspiration-wise. Thanks for sharing your process!

Hi Michelle,

Thanks so much for stopping by with kind words!

I'm with you on the deadline thing. I used to think I was deadline-driven, as I'd procrastinate until it was ALMOST too late, then cram to get it done and do my best work.

Now... not so much. Maybe your process has evolved to the point where you need to work on your own inner time schedule. When it's done, it's done.

I think your new pieces are tantalizing - I look forward to seeing the finished results!

I'm in the same boat as you...I think it's because I had so many other things on my mind...starting to free up now, tho :-)

Hi Sweetie *waves*
Ya know I find myself doing this a couple times before and I realized it so I could put a STOP to it. But when I sign up for something.... I NOW try to do it right away otherwise I get distracted and put off and procrastinate. I get side tracked and Blop (blog hop) and stalk. GUILTY! I know how long it takes for me to complete a project... so that's why I put off. BAD IDEA!! No more! I NOW try to get to them right away. It's best to be ahead then behind! IF all else fails- UNPLUG the computer! hahaha it DOES work!
Good Luck!!
Hugs & Faerie Dust!

Michelle,

You are spectacular! There are so many great things about 2008 and YOU are one of them!

Deadlines..schmedlines.

WE ARE EXACTLY WHERE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE.

Give yourself permission to wipe the slate clean where you need to, start fresh.. isn't that what the NEW YEAR is all about?

What a beautiful start.. 2009 might just be your best year yet.. you are LEARNING & TEACHING so much here on your blog..

BRAVO for already learning so much in 09, and it's just barely started!

*psst*

guess what else?

You won my gift box!

Zip your addy over, I'll see about getting it sent on Monday. Art on, monica :)

No really...if you happen to come across a cure for this malady, do please share it with me and everyone else who happens to suffer from the same!
Holy Hell...I'm thinking that "Florida Time" is an 'international' concept because we sure have it over here as well...and, honey...believe me..I have made it MY TIME!!!
Love those last cards...so very wonderful!!

The clue to the cure for time lapse according to miss"P' etiquite book says "drink two bottles of wine and go to bed..if you wake up in your own bed your on the right time..if you wake up in someone elses..turn the clock back an hour and sneek out, and drink two more bottles and repeat the experiment! ..eventually you will see that time does not matter.. things will happen whether your there or not!
